Rice Preparation Instructions
Pre-Preparation
- Measure 1 cup of rice and rinse thoroughly under running water.
- Soak the rice in clean water for 30 minutes.
- Drain the water completely before cooking.
Method 1: Open-Pot Cooking
- In a large pot, bring 5 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- Add 1 cup of the drained rice to boiling water.
- Cook uncovered and reduce heat to low for 8–10 minutes.
- Stir in excess water using a colander.
- Cover the rice and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Fluff gently and serve hot.
Method 2: Closed-Pot (Pressure Cooker) Cooking
- In a pressure cooker, heat 2–3 tablespoons of Sikri ghee.
- Add cumin seeds, onions or any vegetables of your choice.
- Sauté on medium flame for about 5 minutes, until the onions turn light pink.
- Add 1.5 cups of water and bring it to a light boil (about 2 minutes).
- Add the drained rice, along with salt to taste.
- Close the lid and cook on high flame until one whistle.
- Turn off the heat, wait 2 minutes, and manually release any remaining steam.
- Carefully open the cooker and serve hot.
